The Breadwinner Coming to Theaters with Danna Music

The Breadwinner

The Breadwinner comes to town this fall bringing us Middle Eastern intrigue and music from the Danna brothers.

The Danna Brothers to Write The Breadwinner Music

Aircraft Pictures and Cartoon Saloon announced last week that they hired Mychael Danna and his brother Jeff Danna to write the music for their upcoming animated feature The Breadwinner. The Danna Brothers recently co-write the music for The Good Dinosaur. So, this is not the first time they wrote music together or for animation.

An Afghan Story by the Way of Canada

Based on a Canadian novel series of the same name by Deborah Ellis (which you can buy from Amazon here), The Breadwinner is a Canadian-Irish-Luxembourgian co-production from Cartoon Saloon. Nora Twomey is directing the film which sometimes goes by the title Parvana. It follows the life of a young Afghan girl, Parvana, living under the Taliban regime. Parvan cuts her hair to disguise herself as a boy to provide for her family after her father’s imprisonment. Aircraft Pictures is producing the film for its Canadian release for Cartoon Saloon. GKIDS will handle the United States distribution when it arrives in theaters this Fall.

The Breadwinner Film Trailer

The Breadwinner looks like something good and wholesome to bring your child to see. It may also be something worthwhile for adults as well, but the film will get overlooked with all the other films coming out this Fall. Either way, I will try to catch it when I can, which will probably be when it arrives on Amazon Prime.

If you do not have an Amazon Prime account, I encourage you do so. This way you can join me in watching the film when it gets released to home video next year.

In the meantime, if you or your kids are planning to see The Breadwinner, make a note of it in the comments below.
